Week #3 -
This week we learned about one of the most basic but most useful tools - the hammer. Mr. Smith showed us six types of hammers and two "hammer helpers". We saw the claw hammer, the framing hammer, the ball peen hammer, the mini-sledge hammer, the dead blow hammer, and mallets. We also learned about the cat's paw and the pry bar.
I for sure have a claw hammer in the the family junk drawer and I think we have a rubber mallet around here somewhere as well. I had never heard of a dead blow hammer, but the idea that the shot inside of it gives you more power is kind of cool. I wish I could get my hands on one of those.
Week #2 -
This week's tool knowledge tool is measuring devices. However, I guess I should this week's tools of the week because their are so many different types of measuring devices. Mr. Smith share eight with us...
Tape Measure, Digital Caliper, Tape Reel, Measuring Wheel, Laser Tape, The Classic Ruler, A Divider, and Your Hand
I can easily see that the tape measure would be the most useful, as it is tough and versatile. It was using your hand that was the strangest to me, but then when I thought about knowing exactly how long my hand span is and the idea that I would never be without that measuring device, I ran right over to my ruler and memorized my distance - 9"!
And check out this score on the Ruler Game...
